Kitchen trends for 2018

By December 10, 2017 No Comments

With Christmas and New Year celebrations now firmly behind us, we’ve cast our eye over a few of the latest kitchen trends that could be a big feature in 2018.

The Industrial look

One of the biggest trends of 2017 was the increase in popularity of stainless steel. Stainless steel worktops and appliances offer a sleek, modern finish as well as being incredibly resistant and easy to clean. We expect to see this tend continue into 2018 as stainless steel offers many advantages besides being a great looking, practical material.

Other metals increasingly being found in modern kitchens include copper and gold. These metals can offer a warmer more luxurious feel as well as adding a splash of colour to plain white/beige kitchens. Gold or copper faucets are particularly trendy, as are copper hoods which can really help to provide a great centrepiece to your kitchen.

Different Colours and Textures

2017 was all about big bold colours and mixing different tones/textures. Two toned kitchens are proving incredibly popular and can really help to make a striking statement if carried out with care. By mixing contrasting colours that go well together such as yellow and grey, you can highlight different areas of the kitchen to great effect. A great tip is to try and include at least one dark colour to work as a strong accent, helping to offset the lighter tones for a visually appealing colour contrast.

The biggest colour trend this year has definitely been the return of blue in the kitchen. We predict this trend to peak in 2018 with more people looking for a bolder more dramatic look. Deep blues can really add a rustic charm to a kitchen, helping make it feel warmer and more inviting.

Add warmth and texture to your kitchen by adding wood

Wood can and add texture and provide a great colour contrast to otherwise plain kitchens. Even modern kitchens can benefit by including wood. Not only does a hardwood floor provide a beautiful finish, it is also environmentally friendly and can add a touch of rustic charm to any kitchen area. If you’re looking to add a wooden floor to your kitchen in 2018, we recommend opting for dark woods as they don’t show up the dirt so much and really help to provide a luxurious, upscale finish. If your worried about the durability of wood and don’t want the hassle of oiling/waxing it every now and again, you can always get ceramic tiles or laminate that look like wood to retain that natural effect.
